Saturday Classes run Sept through May

Our Lady of the Elms - Akron

Saturday Oireachtas classes will be held 2 Saturdays per month (They are mainly suited for extra preparation for the Oireachtas thru Nov., AND Feis Season Jan. thru May.)

Saturday Traditional Set class This is extra practice for those who will be attending Oireachtas for traditional set competition AND for those who have just learned hard shoes that would like more practice specifically focused on executing their beginning hard shoe steps.

Saturday Show Class Time for show classes will be dertemined as there is need. December classes will take place for show practices. Expect that times for Saturday’s class may be adjusted after registrations are in AND/OR after November.

9:00-10:30 Traditional Set Class, Novice, Open Oireachtas

10:15-12:30 Oireachtas Prelim & Champion

Dec 12, 19, Jan 9, 30, Feb. 6, Feb. 20th is cancelled and rescheduled at St. Michael in Canton Feb 27

Mar. 6, Mar. 27th is cancelled and rescheduled at the Elms for March 20th because of West Virginia Feis, April 17, 24, May 1, 15, & 22



Guideline Key to Dancers Levels and Class Labels
Teachers Discretion overrides all guidelines!

Levels:

Introductory Level 2
First year students and those who are not ready to move on to harder steps just yet.

Level 3
Students not quite ready to begin harder 2nd year steps or those who started after January of last semester.

Level 4
Students who have mastered 3 jig steps, 2 reel steps, and 2 slip jig steps and are ready to do harder steps.

Level 5
Students who have begun Hard shoe steps but need to work on perfecting them.

Level 6
Students who have mastered the traditional treble jig and hornpipe are ready for Traditional set dances and slow speed hard shoes.

Level 7
Students who have mastered the traditional dances and the slow treble jig but may need to work on the slow Hornpipe and additional soft shoe dances.

Level 8
Students competing at a Novice or open level in all dances and have mastered the slow TJ and HP and are ready for more difficult material.

Level 9
Students competing in Novice and Open in their dances.

Level 10
Students competing in Open in all of their dances

Level 11
Students who have competed in open for more than a year, who have not qualified by Sept 1 for Preliminary Championship.

Level 12
Students competing in Preliminary championship and have teacher’s approval.

Level 14
Students competing in Championship and have teacher’s approval.


Class Types:

Solo class
Individual, Levels mentioned above

Exercise Class
For dancers wishing to work on their flexibility, strength, execution and form. Dancers wishing to participate in the Oireachtas need to take at least 1 exercise class.

1/2 Exercise Class
½ hr for Lev 4-8. This is an introduction to the techniques used in the advanced exercise class specifically geared toward the Advanced Beginner/ Novice Dancer.

Ceili
Group dancing; all levels of dancers are invited to join a ceili class after their first year, Oireachtas ceili groups are put together in the Late summer or by the first 2 weeks in September for the Oireachtas at the end of November. If you are interested you have to let Eileen know ASAP so she can see if there is a suitable team for your age and level.

Adult Class
Adults or those over 17 wishing to begin Irish Dancing.

Oireachtas Solo Class
Oireachtas class is an extra class for all those qualified for Oireachtas or those almost qualified for it. Let Eileen know if you would like to be in an Oireachtas class so she can place you.

Traditional Set Class
This is offered on Saturdays Sept through May only at 9:00 for those who are at least level 4 who have started to learn St. Patrick’s Day or other Traditional sets. Recommended for those doing Oireachtas Traditional set.

Oireachtas
Is the Mid-America qualifying round for the World Championships. It is held in Chicago this year Thanksgiving weekend. Those Dancers over 10 who place in the top of their competition at the Oireachtas are qualified for the World Championships. There are 2 additional competitions held at this event. A Traditional Set competition-(geared toward the novice dancer who will compete only in this one round as a solo dancer). Or the Ceili competitions (dances performed in groups of 8.) The very best of these ceili groups may compete at the Worlds or North American Championships if the teachers feel they are ready to do so. (Ceili and Traditional sets are competitions offered at regular weekend competitions as well.)
